Accidental Potty Training?

Postby Dasphatness » Mon Mar 04, 2013 12:05 pm

I have been noticing a habbit done by Melody lately. Since she is out of the cage as soon as I get home from work, and is out until bed time on most nights, she has built the relationship of always been on or around myself. Its often that I sit in my chair while Im watching the news(or cartoons >.>) or playing some games while she sits on my stomach and preens herself.

Lately, due to the poops on my chair, I have been placing a clean rag on the arms of the chair and when ever she needs to do her business, she will almost always jump off of me, get to that rag, and does her thing. Right after that, she jumps back onto me and continues her activities.

I actually had no intention of training. Just preventing poop from grossing out my chair. But it seems to work for her and thus myself since im a mostly poop free bird perch. (**note: the rag can be moved to different locations, even across the room, and she will go to it to do her thing.**)

Anyone have this happen accidentally? Not complaining by ANY mean, but just curious if it might come natural for some birds.

Oh, I accidentally did that with Alaska, but I think you accidentally did it better than me!
When Alaska does something I like, I unintentionally always say "Thanks!" instead of good or whatever.

...And then, when Alaska poops on my computer screen, I sarcastically say "Well, THANKS!" (With a little laugh while I go get something to wipe it off with  )
Well, I didn't realize anything until she started coming to the screen just to do her thing. I was like, "Well tha------ Oh. OH."

Needless to say, I never sarcastically thank her anymore. She's too smart for me!
