my Senegal attacking other animals

Postby TANZ » Sun May 05, 2013 11:15 am

Can anyone help? I adopted a 30 year old Senegal last November but for the last 4 of those months he wants to attack my Chinchilla, it's like he has a vendetta against him, my Senegal would literally fly to the Chinchillas cage at night to attack him or fly under the couch (where the Chinchilla likes to hang out) and attack him for no reason. I don't want to give up my Senegal but I'm at my witts end. Thank you x

Senegals and larger parrots do have this tendency. Personally I would never allow my birds in the same room as other animals. Its probably a big scary for him to see a moving furball! No offence to your chinchilla.

Also there is the issue of bacterial transfer between them. The bird has antibodies that could infect teh chinchilla and visa versa. Not that your pets and unhealthy or unclean its just the way they are. Like reptiles carry salmonella harmful to humans.

I wouldn't try to make them ok with eachother, just keep them separate and don't let them near eachother. If not possible, completely cover up the chinchilla.
