Nibbling senegal!

Postby Korlipoo » Tue Jun 04, 2013 10:25 am

Hello! I just recently got a senegal parrot on June 1st for my birthday and I feel that I have made a great start. I named my parrot Mango(which is 4 months) and its already warming up to me. Mango is already eating from my hand. My problem is whenever I try to get him to step up he always nibbles my finger. Is this a normal behavior or will this lead to biting later? Please help

It's normal baby behavior. The bird has to get it out of its system by trying stuff. Let it do that for now. Don't DO ANYTHING in response. Just ignore it entirely and within a few months it will get bored of doing that and won't do it anymore. But if you make a response to it, that will teach the bird to bite you on purpose. Something you surely want to avoid.

Thank you so much! I admit the first day I did react by jumping but I haven't since then. Another thing I wanted to know was yesterday I took him out the cage and put him on his play top. He started lowering his head while moving back and forth. Before I knew it he tried to fly off. How can I tell if he was being aggressive or wanted my attention?

He's 4 months old. He doesn't know how to be aggressive yet.
