building trust with your parrot

Postby MacT » Wed Jul 24, 2013 10:46 pm

I was just wondering if you guys have any advice on building trust with my 7 month old Senegal parrot.

i've had Kiwi for 2 months now, she come to me and everything and takes treats, sits with me and is not skittish at all.

but how do you get her to lay on her back in your hand?

also she gets a little nippy at times when she's excited, should i just back off a bit or can i train her not to bite?

currently she's clipped and i'm waiting for her to molt so i can flight train her, do you know how long till she gets her feathers back?

Thanks!!

Positive reinforcement, training and foraging foods and toys greatly helps with aggression. Michael has some info on hand taming and trainings in his blog, but start caressing and scratching the beak. Check out his videos and blog.

Also your Sennie will have her first molt soon enough... Tiki had hers at about 13 months and could fly well enough afterwards. Your bird will be more nippy when molting... so beware ;)
