New baby sun conure :)

Postby Bigmack » Fri Jul 26, 2013 7:37 am

Hi guys! So I'm new to this forum so it would be awesome if you could help me out a little bit. So on July 24th I received ( as a birthday present) a 4 month old sun conure that had been hand fed. I'm very excited as having other birds in the past and now getting the chance to have a beautiful sun conure. I just have a few questions on training the little guy!
1. The only time Wyatt will come out of his cage is when I open up the top part for cleaning and he comes out on his own, how do I get him use to me handling him without stressing him out?
-once he is out of his cage he climbs right up to my neck and cuddles with me and even climbs to the top of my head!
2. Is 4 months old too young to start training him? Should I just give him some more time and space?

Thank you!

hello & wecome! though I can't answer all your questions, as I am still learning training methods the right way, I can tell u I have been on here for a few mos. & have found this the most helpful forum online :D so I am sure someone w/more experience will give u great advise!

but I can tell u I don't think 4 mos is to young to start training, & he/she should be hand tame if got him hand fed. but :sun: maybe just adjusting to new surroundings, so seems un-tame? how do u try to get him out of the cage? does he step-up? that's the # 1 thing I would work on 1rst. I would try as early as possible in the morning to get him to step up on your finger, use a treat to get him up & then make a big deal that he did a good job! from my own experience, out of my 5 fids, only 2 I got as babies. my 1st parrot, a nanday conure, I got when he was 4 mos, the other baby I got unweaned and raised him myself. it has been an amazing experience, b/c I could do whatever right away, i.e... put harness on,take out of cage, put in cage, teach simple things like wave & talk. so never too young! lol
congrats on your new baby!!!! :danicing:
