Scared African Grey

Postby Monique » Tue Aug 06, 2013 3:42 am

I have an African Grey named Monty. I bought him from a registered breeder at 3 months old. Up until 6 months ago he has bee the most adorable, affectionate bird. Kisses, cuddles, loves going for walks on my shoulder with the dogs, going in the car, eats out of my hand and has been very easy to train to step up, go to bed etc. He started speaking almost on the day of his first birthday and now talks the hind legs of a donkey. He has become aggressive and frighted of almost everyone including me , screeching and flapping and trying to get away from us when we come anywhere near him. He has also stared biting the feather on his left wing. He has never been particularly fond of my husband or sons, although he has always tolerated them. We all took turns feeding him as a baby, cleaning his cage, playing with him etc. The only things i can think of that may have caused his change in behaviour is that we went on holiday in December and left him at home with a house sitter and also have a new dog. He still steps up when I ask him to and doesn't try to bite anyone, but he is clearly very unhappy. Please help, my family want me to give him to a bird sanctuary.

is he clipped? it says no for flight and that's a bad idea with kids and a dog. I got my :gcc: after his clipped companion was torn apart by my aunts 2 dogs. my :corella: was also clipped when I got her she was very aggressive before her flights grew back biting a lot drawing blood. what kind of diet and schedule does your :gray: have?
