My IRN hates me....

Postby caitrosek » Mon Aug 26, 2013 5:12 am

I have had my one year old IRN for a while now, but he refuses to stay with me for longer than a few seconds. He doesn't seem afraid but he just doesn't like me...
I was wondering if its okay to gently hold him and comfort in (sort of forcing him to spend time with me) I don't want to be cruel or anything but was just wondering if this would make bonding a little bit easier or would he just start to be scared of me? :irn:
My mum suggested i hold him in my arms close to my chest so he can feel my heart beat and talk to him in the dark for a while each night....does anyone think this is a good idea?
Suggestions please!!! :?
I used to have this wonderful cockatiel who loved me so much, i could take him outside and even go horseriding with him on my shoulder, i really want a relationship like this with my IRN (Neville) but i'm not sure if it is too late.
He had very minimal contact before he came here, so i'm hoping i can get around this.
I love my bird more than anything!! But he doesn't feel the same way :(

forcing a parrot to do anything would be a huge mistake. have you tried eating with him or just sitting next him talking? I sit with mine with my hand out and let them come around on their own. sharing a healthy meal with my birds has always worked to bond with my birds they also know I won't force my hands on them so they are not afraid of them.

indian ringnecks can be timid he will take time to get to know you. You need to establish a routine with him, dont try to do to much to quicky. Dont force anything. I have an irn if you want to read my posts you may find something useful.

Also you can try reading indian ringneck.com this site helped me when i fist got my bird  :irn:
