recently rescued a alexandrine-need advice

Postby kirstyf » Sun Sep 29, 2013 4:33 am

Hi, first of all I want to apologise if I seem ignorant! We are unsure how old it is and even if it is male or female, I have dne some reading and it says that a male should develpo a ring around his neck at around 3 years old, so if it is female how can you tell ? And the age ??? So confused, it has a limited vocabulary just saying "hello" and calling the dog is this cause it is young and hasn't learnt much or because it is an older bird and hasn't been around human contact much ? I hope the latter, we are unable to touch it but I understand that this can take time as it has to build trust, I just hope we are able to do so, it will take food from your hand and likes it when I sit and talk and sing to it , just really need all the advice I can get really

Thanks

If there is no ring and the bird is over a year old, it's a female. You can't really tell how old a parrot is until it's quite old and, even then, all you will know it's that it's old but not the age. I don't know what else you need to know...
