CML, in my personal experience, that would work with other species but when GCCs bond, they BOND! And, while you can work on training them separately, once they are bonded, the male will, most likely, not respond at all and bite and try to get back to the female all the time. The female will respond but only if in another room and training a bird to step up to get her to do it only when the male is not present is not something you can really use for practical uses... I mean, you can use it when you go to the vet or something like that but even that is not really necessary because even bitey birds behave when they are in an unfamiliar (which to them means dangerous) place. GCCs are very special little birds in their behaviors... I don't know of any other species that is similar to them.

I don't know the gender, but they respond to me just fine. I have tried training them in the same room (one in the cage a the other on the training perch) and it seems to work okay. They still try to get to each other, but only if I ignore them for awhile. They love safflower seeds, so they stay with me to get some.

It sounds as if you have two females in there - either that or they are still babies. But it's good that both are responding to you, it will make it easier on you.
