Yes there is a difference, Indian Ringnecks are said to be bad pets but I also have heard the opposite. They can talk though, but also can Princess Parakeets. I would recommend a male P Parakeet. But in the end all birds have different personalitys. :)

I have never actually seen a bad pet, I have seen bad pet owners. Yes, there are animals that should not ever be made into a pet, mostly because they are simply too dangerous to be pets. Most bad pets are simply pets that the owner does not respect and provide adequately for their needs or who are neglected/ abused to the point that they are so fearful that they fell that they need to defend themselves, or they simply revert to their naturally wild state. But the common thread is that the owner is not providing that which the animal needs.

I agree with you, Wolf.

But I expect RenLynn means something more like "pet that is difficult for most people to keep in a human environment".

Yes that is what I meant. some pets need a lot of understanding and let's face it some of us can't give them that. ;)

All parrots are 'bad' (meaning 'difficult') pets but some are more than others, ringnecks fall in the 'more than others' category so first time parrot owners should stay away from the species.

Thanks guys. I ended up getting a Princess Parakeet, and I actually think it may be a female. She is super sweet and steps up and cuddles with me already to an extent. The people at the store actually said she is highly trainable but they may have just said that. Anywho, I'll be trying to work with her a lot and not make her do anything she doesn't want to.
I have already owned a cockatiel so this would not be my first bird, just sayin. :P

Sure is a pretty bird and I understand that they are excellent whistlers. I don't know much more than this about this species or their trainability. The only other thing I have on them is there seems to be a tendency towards eye infections so I would watch this carefully.
Wish you lots of good times with your new friend and look forward to hearing about your adventures together.
