Mona wrote:Hardest trick.....might be talking on cue. That one is tough because you almost have to do it by getting the bird to play or capturing the behavior. Some birds won't talk when you are in the room.

That's interesting because my Cockatiel will do tricks like turn or wings etc on command now, but getting him to talk or whistle a tune is a real pain. If I say the words/phrases that he knows or whistle a tune, he just stops and looks at me.

It took three visits before he finally said "Hello Baby" and whistled a tune that I taught him to my sister.

I might start working on trying to get him to do this on cue.

The kiss trick was super easy. He does it all the time, whenever. I don't worry about him biting me. if i get bit, I get bit, but he never ever tries to bite me on face.

The other easy thing is putting him on his back. He does not mind it at all, or to hang from my hand upside down.

I gotta work on him doing this on command, which I doubt will ever happen because I cannot train like you'all do. I cannot catch when to click or not to click, etc. I'm a spaz.

Michael wrote:I dunno. I think I'd be nervous about any parrot (except for maybe a budgie) doing a kiss trick because that is just too close to the face and if it just so happens to change its mind any bite it could be very serious. Makes it harder to tell if the bird is leaning in to give a kiss or a bite that way too. Human bacteria are toxic to birds so I dont think kisses are a very good idea. To me, this whole thing about owners kissing their birds is all for the owner and not the bird. Kissing is a human thing. Perhaps regurgitating for them might be a more suitable love sign

I don't kiss Lucy or Jessie on the beak at all. I just give them kisses on the top of their head. I'm sure it doesn't mean anything to the birds, but Jessie now puts his head down and makes kiss noises until I give him kisses. He's a sucker for cuddles, scratches and kisses from mommy :) Jessie will also blow me a kiss (make a kiss noise) on command.

Lucy toot's on command like my husband, when we say 'Lucy, toot like daddy.' Not everyone would appreciate this one, but most people that have heard it thinks its hilarious. Lucy's isn't very shy, so she'll usually do it if unfamiliar people are around - she's our little show off :)
