I am not an advocate for potty training birds, so I never do it. My newest addition, a parrotlet, will try and hold it. She doesn't poop in the morning until I let her out and then it appears to be bigger than she is. This doesn't bother me so much, but when I let her out later in the day, which varies between 1 pm and 2 pm, I let her out and just as soon as she lands she poops another poop that appears to be bigger than she is. After this she poops normally for the remainder of the time that she is out. Same in the morning, she poops normally after the big one, for the time that she is out.

And that's my worry! That they would routinely hold it for as long as they can which, over time, it would have a detrimental effect on their intestines as the color becomes widened (in order to accommodate the larger amount of poop) and, because of this, the sphincters become compromised. This is a condition that young children who routinely 'hold it' end up having which results in 'accidents' all the time because they simply can no longer control the muscles. Messing with nature ALWAYS has bad consequences.

And it is much harder to correct this than it is to cause it. It would be fine if it were just another trick, but it is not and it takes a lot of awareness to fix it. I am most recently trying to bring her out and stay at the cage and when she starts to poop put her back in.

well why not train them to poop inside their cages, and at many other places.

I guess pooping anywhere but on a human would be a good trick to teach a bird but this is not what potty training usually means. Personally, it doesn't bother me at all if the birds happen to poop on me, I just wear my 'bird clothes' when I am in the house.

Ithat's pretry much what I taught delight. I give delight a lot of places to go, including his cage. I don't choose one specific spot. Lily's is full on potty trained, but I did not teach her this
