I understand your reasoning with the extra meal, and am not faulting you for it, but with your plans for training you may want to cut it from the menu. A good alternative is just to make a small increase in his evening meal and see if his weight starts to pick up. The reason for this suggestion is that you want him to be a little hungry when you begin your training sessions and this means that the best time for training would be before breakfast. Another time is after letting him out for exercise and then do your training about 2 hours before the evening meal.

So I will be cutting out his lunch starting tomorrow, we will see how it goes. Hope it helps him with taking treats from my hand. I will keep everyone updated.

It's not so much that he should not have something to eat in the middle of the day because, as you said, he is a baby and needs to eat more often. It's that you need to put out a couple of different soft foods (and adding hot water to seeds and dehydrated fruit that has been treated -most likely- with sulfates doesn't qualify as 'soft food') fresh but only twice a day and add 'soft' seeds for dinner.

Babies are not bored by just sitting on your shoulder, it's what they want and need to do because what they want the most is the comfort, security and warmth of a parent presence.
