won't wear harness anymore

Postby DanaandPod » Fri May 22, 2015 12:07 am

Hi. I bought the harness from your site. I spent all winter introducing it along with regular trick and clicker training. Soon as we had warm weather, to my delight, my parrot is riding my shoulder at parks. When I get out the travel cage it's such a hoot because without even hesitating he gets right in! There for I believe he loves going to the park. The problem? He won't let me put the harness on anymore. Oh he wants to come out of the cage but instead we have to sit on a bench. The Times he did wear it... he bites at it constantly. I am frustrated. And he won't wear it and when I take it out he flees the scene or dips his head around so I can't put it on anymore. What a bummer. Now what? I know he wants to be free without it. But, don't worry...I won't risk it. Help please. :(

I can't help you, I don't use harnesses on my birds so I have no personal experience on them but I would assume you would have to start from scratch all over again.

If hes biting it tell him No and take his beak away from the harness and keep doing this until he learns that biting the harness is bad but if he dosent want to wear it dont force him to like pajarita said you might have to start from scratch slowly introducing it to him again.I myself have a cockatiel and the Aviator Harness.

Hi Dana, I am glad to hear from you again, it has been a long time.
I meant to answer sooner but got caught up with other things and didn't get back to this until now, I apologise for that oversight.
I really don't know of another way to get Pod to wear his harness other than to retrain him just like you did the first time.
Good luck and best wishes to you and Pod.
