Help with Connor

Postby Blu » Tue Jun 30, 2015 2:59 pm

Long story short Connor is starting to be a brat. He steps up only when he wants to and is staring to bite more. He just acts like a spoiled child who gets mad when he doesnt get his way

Sounds like he is becoming an adult and feeling a bit neglected. There is nothing you can do about puberty and their becoming more assertive but ride it out until the winter stops their sexual hormone production and neglect, to a GCC, means been left alone for even a few hours and not spending, at least, 2 hours on their chosen human - can these be the reasons why?

I will have to look at his papers Wolf. I have wondered this too. I think it may be the reason Pajarita now that I think about it. I will try to pay more attention.

I have taken in a total of 4 GCCs, all from people who claimed their bird was biting and screaming. Three of them had just been neglected and did not only stop screaming and biting in a couple of weeks but also turned into the sweetest birds ever (I still have one of them, Codee, which will eventually be rehomed -when her mate, an old and handicapped wild-caught peach front passes away- to the same couple who took Leo, a male GCC) but Boca, a male that had been abused, took longer. GCCs are wonderful little birds but they do require a good diet (they are mainly fruit eaters so you can NOT free-feed them protein food), a strict solar schedule and hours of company or they turn to screaming and biting.

my experience with mine is

if i have to go out for any reason and my gcc is only out for 4 hours max then i have issues, on these days i allow him to be out with minimal hands on tasks, but still being around him as much as possible

the days when he is out pretty much all day apart from the odd 30 minutes or so, i have no issues, i find when they get out they can get pretty temperamental if kept in the cage for too long,

my best advice is listen to everything these 2 say, they helped me all the way!

iv found the fastest results iv had is allowing the bird to perch on the chair i sit on so when im doing work on the pc, watching tv, eating ect he is there next to me, mine is parent raised and i found doing this he is having progress faster than i could expect, bonding well because he's next to me pretty much all the time,

i have a video on here that il link later showing the signs of what mine does if he wants out of the cage or if he wants more attention, worth checking out when i link it as if yours does what mine did in the video then your gcc needs more from you

Pacing like in this video is very common for bird asking to come out of their cage and yes, that boils down to wanting your attention.
