Help screaming

Hi,as said in my introduction I have rehired a Senegal, well today he has screamed non stop,at his last home he was kept in his cage for loooong periods and his cage was covered a lot of the time,since being with us he is kept to a solar schedule and he now eats a proper diet fresh veg fruit and grains he comes out every morning before breakfast for a couple of hours,because he doesn't know any step up we can't get him back in lol he is then out again late afternoon for another couple of hours until he/she decides to go back in of her own free will,we call her a she as we have Archie and we're getting confused ,we don't have the two out at the same time as we don't know how they will get on ,they do go on each other's cages and seem ok but I don't want to try it yet any ideas on why she is screaming so much we have had her for five weeks and she is approx two years old ,grateful for any advice x x

Could you post some picture of her? mostly full frontal view and maybe one full frontal from a position lower than the bird. The pictures may tell us if she is a male or female, which may be a clue as to the screaming. Also if the bird is two years old it may be going through puberty and this could also have something to do with the screaming.

Thank you for replying wolf,I think we have worked out why she screamed yesterday my husband was out of the house and we think that she was calling him,he is home today and she is fine,as I am home 24/7 we are hoping that eventually she will take to me,as we are both able to interact with our beautiful amazon Archie we love him to bits,
Another question if you don't mind we are keeping her in a large budgie cage,because she is totally uncontrollable when in her large cage and is a lot happier in the smaller one ,is that ok for her?.
As she is out most of the day we hope that it won't harm her for the time being,?
Hopefully when she has learned how to step up we will use the big cage.
At the moment we let her come out and go back in on her own, which can be a problem when we have to leave the room.
I will try to post pictures of her but being rubbish with computers i will have to get someone to help,
Shall i post on this thread or "on pictures of your birds" ?

Post the pictures here. I don't know what you mean uncontrollable in the larger cage, however if your bird is out most of the time a smaller cage used primarily for sleeping in or for short time periods should be fine.
Considering that my experience with parrots only spans a period of just over three years, it should not be too difficult to learn the amount that I have learned.

Hi,i have sent you the pictures,hope you recieved them if not I will try again when my grandson is here,to help me lol
Uncontrollable ,,what I mean is that you can't approach her at all she just goes crazy,screaming and flying madly about that we were afraid that she would hurt herself ,it was awful to see,

When she calmed down we opened the door and she flew out went straight to my husband shoulder
The previous owner told us that she was always calmer when in her travel cage so we tried her in and she is fine,we still have the big cage set up and she can go in anytime ,but she would rather land on top of Archie's cage,
she does get upset sometimes when I am approaching the smaller cage but I back away until she is calm I take it at her pace

I sit and talk to her and feed her treats through the cage bars sometimes she takes them and other times she charges at me screaming,she has let me head scratch her twice from outside of the cage,

I don't force her to do anything I am just taking it slowly,I don't think that she is used to all the freedom and attention that she is getting now

She is able to see me and Archie having one on one time as we are all in the same room all day,other than nap time,so hopefully she will learn to have fun as well,
Well thank you for your help hopefully she will get to love and trust me, if not I will still love and care for her

Your Senegal looks like a male to me but I wish that I could also see the underside of his tail as well.
As for this cage preference I would try placing the small cage on top of or beside the large cage with food and water in the large one and just water in the small on, leaving both cages open and let him go between them. I would also make certain that he sees you put food in the large one for him.
I would place him on a solar light schedule and on a low protein diet as well as plenty of out of cage time. Be patient and he will come around. You seem to have a pretty good idea of what he needs, so keep up the good work.

Rio did walk across the window sill to me when I made a smacking noise (well a odd noise) with my mouth,lol
We have come to realise that she screams more if either one of us is out of sight,
And if we are not paying her attention,when we have visitors for instance,don't get many
I have tried singing to her but she not impressed at all,i don't blame her i am tone deaf, lol
Archie loves me singing but only one song,(danny boy) bless him

Hmmm, no, looks like a hen to me... the V would end much higher on a male (halfway down the chest and not on the abdomen as it is on this bird). Both of them look like females, as a matter of fact (has Archie been DNA'd a male? if so, is he very young?).

As to the cage, the problem with small cages for parrots is the fact that the paint is not guaranteed NOT to chip and that the separation of the bars is too narrow - plus, I might be wrong on this as I can only see the top of the cage, the bars appear to be all vertical, in which case, it's not a budgie cage but a finch/canary one which makes the paint on it even more dangerous.
