Parrotlets together or separate rooms?

Tookie has been here 2 nights. The first day he allowed me to preen him, cuddle him, and sing to him and I was the only thing in his world. Today when took him out he wanted Jellybean out too. Tookie ran and bit me and drew blood trying to "protect" his mate even though hey are both male. They have been regurgitating to each other. I know this is totally normal and I am torn. I miss sweet Tookie you can do anything to and Jellybean who was coming along nicely. Right now they are housed together and you cannot get them out unless Jellybean is out first, then Tookie lets you pet him. He loved petting a lot more when he was alone. I would hate to have to put one upstairs in a bedroom but I am leaning towards that.

Update: I put Jellybean upstairs and they are back to being calm and sweet and loving people.

Well, it worked for you but it was a real cruel thing to do to them. If I were you, I would reconsider this course of action very carefully because plets never do well on their own, they all end up either biting or plucking. So much so that breeders are quitting breeding them because of all the returns and complaints they were getting - they just don't make good human pets in the long term because they only want to be with other plets.

I thought I was doing well when it only took 5 days before I let my two parrotlets move in together. That was to avoid fighting and having one or both of them hurt. I have Paquita, whom I call Keeta who is a 10 year old who has been a single bird this whole time although I have had her for just over a year. She is a sweet little bird who loved to spend time with me and still does. I also have a new male parrotlet called Rajah and he is a 4 year old retired breeder and he is currently untouchable. Even though in the last couple of days she bites the ???? out of me when she first comes out she is fine once she calms down and still loves to be with me and have her head scratched. I would not dream of separating them unless they start fighting.

We need to do what works for the family as a whole and this works. No more biting and two cuddly parrotlets. Tookie preens me and loves scritches. Jellybean loves going for walks with my 4.5 year old and playing with her on the playgym. They were only in a cage together for 1 day so it is not cruel Pajarita. In time I will try a
supervised playtime together on the playgym but not yet.

Edited to add: if you google Flash the parrotlet, Tookie is very similar in personality and level of tameness. He does not go in pockets or lie on his back in your hand but in years of trust building to come I think that will come and it is fine if it doesn't!

Well, I guess when you say 'the family as a whole' you are not including the birds as part of it because been alone doesn't work for any parrot but, most especially, it doesn't work for the little ones.

I don't mean to be harsh or offensive but you need to understand that I love birds - my birds, your birds, the birds out on the trees, all birds! All animals in fact. So, to me, when confronted with this type of decision, the birds' need come before the humans' desires. I know it sounds weird to most people but, in truth, I believe that most people don't really love animals, they simply enjoy them. And that, in a nutshell, is the difference between been 'normal' and an 'animal nut' . Because, in my mind, the wellbeing of the animals under my care (and everywhere, actually) comes before any human being's desire for entertainment. And I count my husband, 7 children and 11 grandchildren amongst those 'human beings', mind you! I am not 'one of those crazy animal people' who have no family or hate all people.

Of course we can agree to disagree! But, when it comes to bird husbandry in relation to physiological needs, they are not a matter of my or your opinion, they are what nature evolved the species to need. And parrots need company 24/7/365. Not my opinion, a scientific fact.

They are together and happy now. They step up together and even kiss me sometimes but no scritches together so far. My rescued Maxi Pi likes watching me with them.

i keep celestial's and for a little bird they can be feisty and if you read up parrotlets they like nothing more than a good squabble between each other my pair are no exception they are always bickering which is quite amusing as its like watching kid arguing but on night you'll find them huddled close together.
Also when they are out flying round the living room they constantly call to each other but I have to let them out on their own to excercise, as where they are so fearless they will attack my 2 Indian Ringnecks if they are out.
Having said that my pair are stupidly tame but will bite on the very odd occasion more so the hen than the cock when she bites she means business (to which she does get reprimanded for doing so) where as the cock will just nibble a warning that he wants to be left alone.

The cock bird George is the green and the hen Bluebell is the blue
