Rescued 8 year old Maximillian Pionus

Slivered almonds are a great idea. I tried sliced on the weekend and they went alright.

We made huge progress yesterday - Elmo has been calling me and stepped up to me twice! I only offered my arm twice and both times he accepted. Today he flew down to me and also stepped up. He is no longer screaming for my husband and even accepted an almond frim my daughter. Our dining table is encircled by 3 pionus cages with birds on top. It is so funny! They are like the knights of the round table! I wish I could upload it but it is too big.

Elmo is also trying Tops oellwts and Roudybush which is a huge step from his previous pellets. I have to eat them first though!

Pajarita - you misread. The latest bird arrivals are described in my last post. The last three birds were Tookie (parrotlet), Storm (pionus) and Elmo (pionus). Indigo (pionus) has been here for almost 4 years.

You can also offer a small piece of a good quality multigrain bread -they all love bread!

Thanks Pajarita, I will try multigrain bread. You probably already saw it but since I have been posting a lot here I will cut and past how the birds came here from a previous post- ignore it if you read it already!

"We have similar stories! People showed up at our door one day with a flighted budgie found at the park. It was a year ago and frost was nearing. Next the big box petstore here contacted me to because they had an unsellable budgie with a deformed wing. Violet and Joey are both flighted and are best buds. 
Our family was on the cover of a magazine lately and it centered around our pets and plants. After that came out in August, Tookie, Storm and Elmo came into our lives and I think a lot of it had to do with the article. It was a blessing because Tookie and Jellybean are best buds and Tookie was still nuzzling me today and singing Happy Birthday . He wanted me to kiss Jellybean too. Jellybean loves all the attention! He is such a sweet parrotlet baby.

Indigo, Storm and Elmo are the big pi boys who eat with us and talk with us throughout the day. Elmo loves the new cage because he actually has toys,- leather, leafy branches and wood to chew one. He circled in it the first day upside down on top of the cage in a neurotic way because thst is probably what he did a lot on his previous tiny box. He is still scared of his shadow but is really coming around. He still lunges sometimes when I walk by the cage (especially in the late evening) but I try to keep my distance at thise times. At least he is coming in and out freely and is not cagebound like he was in the first house when he was depressed and plucking and in the second where he was caged in."

Ok, your sense of time appears to work similar to mine in that it hinges on events and not actual time. in one post you say that they have been with you for four years and in the other ( the one you reposted) it says that just over a year ago you got the budgies and then later got the last three. It is rather confusing to me too.

Aack now you are confusing me lol! I will say it again. Indigo (BH) has been with us nearly 4 years. The budgie was rescued from the park and brought to us about a year ago and his budgie friend with a deformed wing came soon after (Violet and Joey). We have had Jellybean (pied parrotlet) for 6 months.

In August after the magazine came out, Tookie (blue parrotlet) came, then Storm-Indy-Pione (Dusky). Last week Elmo came. Phew! And no more are coming.

Maybe the confusion was from the similar names - The previous owner named the Dusky Indy-Pione but that is too close to Indigo so I changed it to Storm-Indy-Pione.

Thank you, now I understand when you got whom. Knowing when who came to live with you is very good information to have as it sometimes helps to explain what is going on with them.

Yes, thank you for the clear timeline. In any case, you will have no problem with the budgies because they have each other; the plets might give you trouble as they get older and mature sexually because they will have no mates but that's easily remedied when and if the need arises - the ones that you will have to watch for the next few years are the pies because Indigo will get jealous and the others need that time to settle down for good but, like I said before, the fact that they are all pies is a HUGE help.
