Introducing myself (Josie) & my new boy (Basil the corella)

Postby JSMCP » Thu Oct 01, 2015 7:29 pm

I have had him for about 3 weeks now and have been trying to get him used to me but it is slow going as i work lots of hours... I can now sit by his cage without him hissing at me but cannot open it without him rushing to the floor to get away from me... he likes being tickled with a chopstick through the cage but wants nothing to do with me any closer...
Any tricks I should know for getting him more quickly acclimatized?
I was spoiled with my previous parrot... he loved me from first sight, cuddled me, ate treats from my lips, and basically did anything I wanted with hardly any training... this guy is more of a challenge!!!

As much as we would sometimes like it to be different there are some things that simply require that you put in the time and energy. but in order to be fair, why don't you fill us in on what you have been doing to earn this birds trust as well as the amount of daily time that you are devoting to him. The more detailed that you are the more we can be accurate in our replies to you.
