Help with my new budgie

Postby tlb » Mon Nov 30, 2015 6:47 am

4 weeks ago I bought a 7 week old hand fed budgie who came right on my finger. After 1 month he is less tame than he was. When I go to take him out, he tries to get away - the last 3 days, he has pecked at me. Whenever I go to put him back, as soon as he sees the cage he tries to fly to it (wings clipped). I feed him millet every time. What can I do to get him to like coming out of the cage with me?

There is very little for me to go on in order to reach any conclusions upon which to base any suggestions.
So if you don't mind, would you please try to give me some idea as to how much experience that you currently have with birds. Also It would help to know what you are feeding your bird and when as most parrots eat mostly in the mornings and evenings as well as smaller amounts off and on throughout the day. Also it would help to have a general rundown of a day in the life of your bird from wake up to bedtime. Also useful would be for you to tell me how you try to interact with your new friend as well as how often. To be honest, this early on, this will probably result in even more question that are more detailed, but that will allow us to give you more accurate responses and suggestions. Parrots, regardless of species or size are extremely intelligent creatures and they each come with their very own unique personalities and this means that just like humans children what works to teach one will not always work with the next one they are all different. And that is the reason for the questions that I am asking.
