Congratulations Tiko

I let Tiko out of her cage and she came out and I put my hand behind her legs and said step up and she offered her leg and then the other and jumped right on, So proud of her I knew she could do it.Now I can get her to step up all the time now without any fear.Im gonna do step up training with her everyday and then let her make the next move if she wants to be touched or not.

Nice work Brandon and congratsio 
I dont know about Tiko but I find that it scares my birds if I put my hand from the behind for stepping up where they cant see it.

I have noticed that their are a few birds that prefer to step up backwards. I have not heard of very many bird like this but I do know that there are some.

It is certainly strange for them to take a liking to go backwards rather than fowards (no offence to Tiko!!)! It seems so much more natural to me for them to go forwards.

Its because Tiko has always stepped up from the back since she was a baby.

It depends on how they were thought to step up.

One of my cockateils was more comfortable stepping up backwards. I still put my finger in front of him though. He would scoot to get in front of my finger and then do a kind if sideways and backward step up. He was a rescue/rehome so I don't know how or why he picked it up. The good thing was you really knew he wanted to step up because he had to run in front to do it.

She is stepping up whenever I ask today but has bitten a few times while on my arm but not hard kinda like what Santina was first like with Michael.
