problems with a sun c

Postby HeartHaze » Sat Jul 03, 2010 8:52 pm

i have a sun conure. had him for 1month already. he's 5mos old. the problem is when i'm around he doesn't want to eat. for example, when i get him out he doesn't eat or whenever i put food in he's cage, when i'm there he won't eat. he's too excited to play when i'm around.

aside from not eating when he's out, he's so clingy to me. well, i know it's a good thing but it reaches the point wherein i can't even put him on his perch or table and get him to stay even for just 3 secs. "recall" (i think? ) is so easy because i think he is just too clingy but again there is a downside to this. when he flies back to me, he skip my hand and heads straight for my head.

i've been meaning to start training him but again... he doesn't want to eat when i'm around, just play

i did what michael said about poop training and i think the only "trick" he knows is this  . whenever i pet him, i make sure that every 15-20mins i place him on a table so that he can poop. but there are times i forget that 15-20mins and it'll reach 30-40 and he still wont poop on me. he waits until i put him on the table. i think he does this so i can play with him more :P :?

before, i also had a sun conure. they're about the same age, but he eats when i'm near him. he could stay in place longer compared to the sun i have now. too bad his cage was left open when someone in the house changed his water. i was in school that time :(

i want to teach him proper recall (wherein in he won't go to my head), stay on his perch or something and i also want him to eat when i'm around. so guys, i need some advice.
