Will letting bird out of cage help with bonding?

Postby tishihara1994 » Mon Aug 30, 2010 10:05 pm

My dad keeps telling me to let my bird out of the cage every day, but it won't get out of the cage voluntarily so i use a perch to get it out. But the instant i do that, it'll start flapping its wings and glide somewhere and disappear for a while then start to roam my room.

But putting it back in the cage is a pain cause it won't trust my hand or any perch so I have to dump a t-shirt on top of it then grab it.

I was wondering if this'll help with the bonding process or not...

Ditto. Before you can really bond with your bird, it needs to trust you :)

I never read a book..... but I will tell you how I bonded with Buddy......

Like most others...... Buddy would not trust me. He would flap, run, anything to get away from me..... and I was getting frustrated.

I forgot where i read it, or got this idea..... but one time, Buddy was on the floor, I decided to just get down there...... but not near him. I grabbed one of his little toy balls, and just started to play with it...... myself. I ignored him...... but just sat there watching tv, and rolling the little plastic ball around the floor....

Well, after awhile...... he must have thought, that looked like fun, and walked his butt across the floor to me :senegal: ...... and that was it. He had to have what I had, and from then on, it got much better....
