Chilling with your fids?

Postby Titanius » Fri Sep 17, 2010 4:22 pm

I was wondering what you guys do to deal with your parrot pooping when you're are bonding and their around you. The obvious reaction is to clean the area. Be it your hand or on a chair or something but are there any precautions you put in place for when your sitting down watching tv or something. Like an old towel... or old shirt or something? I've never really thought about it because usually I let them perch somewhere and watch me but just what do you guys do otherwise?

Training Perches!!!

First off I don't hold them for excessively prolonged durations of time but second off they just fly back to their perches when they need to poop. I virtually never get pooped on when at home. Out of the house it may be somewhat different just cause they aren't used to the environment. But at home it really isn't a problem at all, especially with Kili.

I absolutely love just chilling with my little Cas. I find being pooped on isn't really a problem because I keep his playgym just a little off to the side. So long as my timing isn't off, he'll happily choose to poop when put on to the perch instead of when he's on me. Especially since he's realized that the sooner he poops the sooner to can come back and hang out again

Galileo likes to sit on my leg or she tries to shimmy up to my shoulder... I don't trust her to do that though. Archimedes will sit on my shoulder happily for a little while, then wants to go off and do his own thing. Cloudy likes to either cuddle into my hair, or he will chill out in my lap in a blanket and fall alseep.

They poop on me alllllll of the time. Except Gal, she will usually make a funny feather-fluff to let me know she needs to go, and I have started taking her to her cage to go, and then bringing her back. I think it's working!

google "potty training a parrot" :) It's not perfect and it takes a lot of time and commitment but worth it.

Jake is sorta potty trained. He'll run off me and poop off the side of the couch
If I tried getting Scarlet to chill on me I'd end up minus a nose or finger or knee or.... well you get the picture

Lucky! I wish my birds were so visual... They give you no warning. It's like "Oh, wait wait .......nm" The best I've come up with is just letting them perch somewhere with paper or a mat at its base for easy clean up. Then I mentally *try* and time them. Its usually hit or miss. :?
