Both my Amazon and Macaw see me as THEIR mate. So if I spend time with one, the other gets angry at me. My Amazon is the one who shows the most "displeasure" in me giving my Macaw attention. He will be moody, shrug me off with his wings, push my fingers away with his feet and grab my fingers with his beak and push them away as-well. He will also "squak and honk" to let me know he is very displeased at this.
My Macaw on the other-hand, just yells "MOM!!" the entire time. Or will sit there and calmly say "mom, mom, mom..." So he isnt really my biggest problem.
I recently left for 2 weeks due to a family emergency and had a friend that the birds both know, watch them. Since coming home, my Amazon hasnt wanted ANYTHING to do with me. Before, he would regurgitate (sp?) food up for me... Gross... I know. But Im his "mate" in his eyes. He would be snuggly, give kisses, and just love to be given attention. He would let me pet his back, belly, underneath his wings, stick my fingers in his beak (I dont do this often), he would preen me, etc. Now, he doesnt want anything to do with me, he will do his whole "shrugging off" thing, he will be sitting on the couch with me, then get down off of me, get off the couch and walk to his cage that is down a 20 ft. hallway in his "room" and go in his cage.
My birds pretty much are out ALL day long. I work from home and the only time they are ever left home alone is when I have to go to school. I leave their cages open all day and most of all night as my Blue & Gold Macaw would come and sleep with me and my fiance. He would actually lay down for some of the night on our pillows
So basically... My Amazon wants nothing to do with me since I have gotten back from being gone. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem to this and what could be done?
I am currently spending most of my time with him, and when I am spending time with my Macaw, I have put my Amazon back in his cage or put him in his room. But he has been spending alot more time with me... And I was hoping that this would help him come back around to his cuddly self. But so far, nothing has happened and no progress.
Also if I am with my fiance' both birds will get VERY angry at me for being with him... My Macaw has even yelled some pretty vulgar things (pretty much what a woman becomes when she is with more than one man) that I am unsure I am able to mention. It was hilarious at the time, but for him to say those things because I am with my fiance' was pretty weird. They dont like him and dont like any other person but myself.
So I was wondering if anyone knew how to make them not be so angry with me if I am spending time with my fiance' and not them? Kind of weird to have birds "run your life" like that and actually be "angry" at you for being with someone else. But yeah.
And ONE MORE question. Sorry :S
My Amazon due to his past, doesnt like baths. He doesnt like anything that has water or doesnt like to be clean. He likes when I "preen" him, and all I do is "pick" at his feathers and try to mimic how a bird would preen him. He tends to get very dusty and have a "greasy" texture to his feathers... I was wondering what alternatives there are to cleaning a parrot that doesnt really like to be cleaned?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
