I dont have a clicker, and I don't have a bird yet, planning to get one or two the next week or so, and if my pet store has clickers I will definetly get one for training purposes. If they don't have them I don't know, maybe I'll order one.

Hello there
have a clicker but have difficulty using it physically because of the nature of my cerebal palsey { please see my other posts ) by ringneck is responding to the clicker when i can actually click it :) its not her faut its me shes very responsive to operant conditioning the problem is my lack of cordination in my left hand and the fact that the left side of my body is weak.

i am going to persevere with it however as i feel it might stengthen my weak hand . i am trialing different types of clickers at the moment to see which ones are easiest for me to use. She also likes a metal dog whistle that i have but i have to be carefull with that as the neighbours dogs like it too and i dont want to cause havok! :irn:

ill keep you posted

I'm sorry spiral I am not to knowledgable of your condition, however you can use the clicker with your knee, against the other knee (with a modification too it tho) or have it on the floor and step on it puching the button with your toe, this is if you actually want to use the clicker, basicly anything you find that makes the same noice everytime should work, a click with the tounge should work fine as well. before the clickers people successfully trained their pets with a "good boy" or some other verbal bridge. however the clicker is more consistent, but so would a small kids little drum be as well if that would be easier to hit each time, basicly all you need is a sound that is easy to time so that it comes at the right moment, there is nothing in the clicker that creates some magic sound that motivates your pet, it is a learnt behavior that that specific clickersound means a reward.

I do use a clicker, usually between the palm and my "pinky finger" dunno really what its called in english.. we just call it littlefinger.. but I can keep all my fingers straight while bending one finger at a time fully. so i do have the rest of the fingers on that hand to hold a treat or for the bird to step up on or whatever... might be harder todo if your (like on most people) ringfinger follows when you bend the pinky one :)

I don't use a clicker. Myrtle would probably just steal it anyway.

I have a clicker, but I dont use it. As Liz said, my birds are always after it, so I decided to use the word good + reward. As I always carry my reinforcers with me, for me it is much easier. I dont have to look for the clicker, when I need it, I just say the the magic word. Works fine with us! :gray:

yeah as i stated in the previous post whatever bridge used should be fine, i just tend to use clickers becouse i prefer it, and i usually have one in my pocket.. and one in the pocket of my jacket... and one in the top drawer hehe :) I got a few laying around, but if i leave em out Polarn will fetch it and bring it to me is he feels like hearing it... also i find it easier when asking friends etc to have him do something for them to use the clicker than my little fella needing to recognize the bridge no matter intonation or pitch of voice... And we do try to socialize alot, and im happy enough to have a huge family that enjoys coming here for dinners every now and then and a great group of friends that are willing to help me socialize my friend, hey i help them with their dogs or horses or whatever, so they can help me :) anyways thats one of the reasons I went with a clicker as well, just to have the same sound no matter who is asking him to step up or wave or whatever...

Hi

yes, we are 4 persons in the house, and the boys have their geirlfriends coming in and out, and friends etc.. I have no problem with our "Good", they understand. Momo is a little pest so, when we have visitors she is like a plaster, doesnt move away from them. As long as she has somebody to fool around with she is happy! LOL

"Have a clicker and use it for training".

Both me and my wife train our bird, depending on who is home and who has the time. Though the methods are similar, the 'praising' styles are different. So to keep it consistent, we use clicker. Seems to be working great :)
