Where to begin

Postby sl8tr » Thu Jun 16, 2011 2:13 pm

I have three birds. A male Congo African Grey, a male Double Yellow Head Amazon and a male or female (not sexed) Red Fronted Macaw. All three step up for me beautifuly 9 times out of 10.

I'm interested in getting them to fly on cue either to me or to their perch or cage, etc..

I have a couple stands for training purposes but my African Grey is not fond of the stands. I find that when he doesn't like something he has no interest in anything. He won't even accept his favorite treat if he is uncomfortable. What can I do?

Thank you.

It is hard to believe no one answered this post. Everyone else is better at this than me. The most I can do is get :amazon2: Myrtle to fly and follow me. She only lands on me if I have been gone for a while and that is at her will.

I checked his profile, he was logged in about a week ago, hopefully somebody will provide an answer before he checks back in.

As for the question, do you have a play stand that the grey hangs out on? IUf you do you could teach him usung rthat as a starting or landing point, as he may be more comfy with it than a perch. I cannot really think of anything else, hopefully somebody more experienced will read this.

i saw a guy hold millet near index finger of other hand and starting an inch at a time he lured the bird from one hand to the other. soon the bird had to fly to get the millet. hope that helps.

Introduce him slowly to the training perch by placing him on/near it and giving him treats. Until he is comfortable with the perch, you can flight train on top of his cage or on the back of a chair.
