Tameing a Parakeet

Postby parrotlover » Sun Jul 10, 2011 5:23 pm

Hi, I'm going to be getting a Parakeet in about 2 weeks and I'm looking for ALL the information I can get on Parakeets and things I can do with them. I want to know what EXACTLY I should do the day I get the Parakeet and what I should start doing in order to bond and start a relationship with him/her.

Where do you plan on getting it from? I would personally AVOID pet stores. I would look for a tame one on Craigslist, or post an ad looking for a tame, young one. There have been many cases where birds are very ill from pet store conditions, and these guys are not tame at all.

I would check my local classified first.

I checked the internet and what not but I didn't find any places. I even called a bird clinic/hospital and they didn't even have Parakeets for sale... And the nearest breader is in Texas, or almost to Arkansas. (I'm from Louisiana.) :(
