nippy new addition

Postby animal_lover » Fri Sep 16, 2011 2:42 pm

I have only had my Meyer's a week so I realize it takes time for everyone to adjust and bond but it seems my little guy is very nippy. I guess he is getting territorial over his cage which I guess is pretty usual. When we try to take him out he often growls and nips (kinda lunges at ya). Once he is out and away from the cage he isn't as nippy. My question is : Is it better to keep him out of his cage for longer periods of time instead of short frquent outings? The family and I are getting worried that he will always be this way. Thanks in advance :meyers:

If you are sure he likes being out of the cage then the longer and more times you show him that the only way he gets to be out is by not biting and stepping up, the better. Never hurts to go through the taming steps to teach the parrot appropriate behavior.

I open the door and wait for them to come out to me.
