Quaker Parrot questions... new to parrots:)

Postby henward » Sun Sep 18, 2011 5:28 am

Hi All,
I am very new to this forum,
My fiance and i have decided to purchae a new quaker parrot.
lovely individual, in the store, extremely tame and still is, can hold it upside down, cuddle it, steps up with no issues and comes out of cage with no issues.

Also to note, the quaker has no aggression what so ever! very nice bird.

we have had it for 4 days now, and at first it was weary and clearly settling in, today we noticed it has gotten more curious and active.
Its wings are clipped. We bought it a little climbing play pen so when its out of the cage, it can have a separate play area other than its cage, like a perch.

some questions:
we noticed, it likes to fly off the perch, though its clipped, it seems to just wanna roam around and fly off its perch or at times our shoulder.

Also, noticed it is fixated in climbinb my fiances head so it can sit on the top of her head lol, cute but just wondering why.

is the above normal?

Also, just some more questions lol told you i was a noob!

should we continue to clip it or let it fly? we are scared it may fly out of the window during summer, OR is that a matter of preference weather we let it fly or continue to clip?
Will clipping its wings train it to not attempt to fly anymore?

we welcome any comments what so ever and of course answers to my queries or anything else you wish to add:D

Clipping it's wings will not prevent it from flying out a window. Put screens on. The difference in personalities between a clipped and flighted bird is extreem. You will love having your bird flighted and so will he.
