Hand shaking

Postby liz » Sun Sep 18, 2011 10:31 am

One of the first things I have found of an bird that does not want touched. When I would put my finger out for step up it would raise a foot to push me away. I would let the bird clamp on to my finger while I stand at arms length as to not threaten. While it was still holding I would shake the little foot and say "pretty bird - pretty bird - ha ha ha". You would be amazed at how they hold their foot up for you to do it again. This works great for first touch.

Thats pretty interesting. The first thing my sun conure did to me was tear my finger open....at arms length in a non threatening manner. He bit down and I did not want to show fear or emotion and he didn't let go until I was bloddied, the store manager just looked at me like I was a nut case!
