Postby lovebirdlover » Wed Oct 12, 2011 2:10 pm

My bird annabelle is pretty tame but my little cousin's mom scared her so anna bit down and would let go until she bled. Now she kinda is loosing trust with me and trying to bite me, how would i stop her from trying to bite me at all? Also is it because of her age beacause she is 1 now? please let me know

thanks

My opinion: Use an open hand to deflect her attack. If she bites one hand use your other hand to cover her head so she can't see. She should let go. I know it is hard but do not show a reaction to her aggression. It will only encourage her to get the strange attention.

It's easy to take tameness for granted on a juvenile parrot but as they grow older, unless you maintain the right relationship they revert to their wild side. Retaming is in order:

Once you get through targeting, step up, and touching, work on grabs and holding. The more non-bite contact you make with the bird, the more of a non-biting relationship you are building where the bird learns not to bite in these situations. Just don't forget to be rewarding desirable behavior.
