Should I let my Sun do this?

Postby Ashwin1224 » Mon Oct 24, 2011 1:44 pm

Hi all,

Ive been trying to tame my :sun: from quite some time now. But with limited success. Here he is getting very nippy. Now, I dont know what to make outta it.
Is he very Happy?
Or is he cranky?
Whatever it is, should i let him do this whenever he wants?
Its the only time he actually comes to my hand though.

That dosnt seem to work.. Heres the link:

My iPad won't let me view the video unfortunately.

About the nippiness, it may just be that your sun is at a stage in his life where he is gonna become nippy. This can go on for a few months, but after that, hopefully, he should be fine. This is definitely not unusual, all birds go through this stage.

The only thing I can think of to stop this behaviour, is to not reinforce it. By this, I mean when he bites you, keep your hand there until he stops biting you and he will soon learn that biting you will not solve the problem. It will take a lot of pain, but hey, no pain no gain lol. Good luck!

That looks fine to me. It looks more like exploring and not nippiness. Nippiness is more aggressive. Is he really 9 months old? He has much more green on him than my 4 month old Sun.

yea man, He is. And I am worried alot!

The other conure with whom he was (possibly his sibbling) is much Yellow!!
And everything that Sun eats are Sunflower seeds and sometimes peanuts.

While mojo has seeds only as treats, and few for food. He usually has fruits and vegies.

After seeing the video...that is perfectly fine behaviour...I think he likes you  As for the green, it took my sun a LONG time to fully grow out his normal plumage. I am pretty sure that your bird is happy healthy and just a beuatiful guy waiting for his true colors to come through!!

Seeing the video kinda changes my answer,

I think that he is just being curious, this is fine , as long as he is not biting too hard,
