Is my lovebird pooping too much?

Postby azgardezi » Sat Nov 26, 2011 12:13 pm

I am raising a baby lovebird ( It should be about 35 days this Sunday). The bird is healthy, receives balanced food on time 3 to 4 times a day. I have a question regarding the bird.

The bird poops many times after several time intervals. This usually happens when I take it out of its box and feed it. I kinda figured that the pooping may be normal since the body metabolism a baby parrot is fast ( since it is growing up ). However, I had read in a book on parrots that the pooping interval of parrots is usually in between 25-30 minutes. Is there anything to worry about?

Other than this, when should I start introducing solid food ( please suggest what should I feed the bird in terms of seeds / fruits )? Furthermore, when should I transfer the bird from the box to a proper cage? :swaying:

Not just seeds and fruits,... Your bird needs a VARIETY of pellets, grains, vegetables, fruits and SOME seeds.

You should also sprout your seeds because they're a lot healthier than regular seeds.

As soon as it starts nibbling around, offer a pile of different foods every day. It is very important that your baby learns to eat a variety of items, and not just seeds.
