dan4 - that sounds like the horror stories that I have heard about parrot owners. Starving your bird then locking it away in another room makes me sick to my stomach. Shame on you.

That bird should be well fed and brought out to the busiest part of the house. Putting it in another room would be like putting you in a waiting room with no magazines or TV for days at a time. How bored would you get.

Shame on you. If you don't have the ability to take care of it - REHOME to someone who will. That bird can think and feel and you are putting it through hell.

Non stop screaming wouldn't stop and still doesnt even when ignored

won't target just bites

can't get within 12inches of him without him flying

He made himself bald trying to get out of cage everyday

The only slight improvement is if I starve him all day but its still hopeless. Niki it seems this place only has people like us who are needing help rather than professionals...

We are not professionals. We are caring parrot parents who have knowledge from experience and study as well as feelings for the little ones in our care.

@ Liz, of course you are correct in what you are saying. I am not sure if it is the correct way for the bird, now at this time, to be moved to the original room again. It was moved a lot already, that is why my suggestion was the way it was. No, Dan4 is wrong with what he is doing, and I feel very sorry for the bird. That is why I posted my first and second posting. 3. one is for help. Pls dont misunderstand!

Myrtle was a year old when I got her. She had been caged all her life.

My method: was to open the door in the busiest room and let her be a bird first and my baby when she was ready.

She is the sweetest thing and a joy to have with me. I can now even touch her under her wings. She likes me to kiss her legs and belly and this morning she lifted her wing for a kiss. She cuddles up and whispers secreats into my ear.

Hi liz,

I have the joy of 4 special birds, and I do not want to miss their company ever. I never saw working with them as a kind of work, it was fun and still is. It never came into my head, that I would give one of my birds away.

I know, they bring happiness and sunshine even when it is raining. Right now Myrtle is practicing every word she knows because I am busy. Every once in a while she will throw in a parrot call. They are noisy but I don't like quiet.

There are some people and their birds who would be better off seperated. I can't even imagine putting one in solitary confinement. That is cruelty and can lead to imotional problems.

My wife always says " Don, you cant save the world", if she didnt, we might have half a zoo here. She is correct in her saying, because if you have to many birds, you havent got enough time for the individual. But it is always breaking our heart to see them suffering. I cannot promise, that when I come across one of those poor birds, that I will NOT take it home with me.

I know how you feel. With 6 dogs, 5 cats, 2 amazons, 7 tiels right now and 2 lovies I have a full house. But still I have rescued and brought back to health others and found them good homes.

He's in his own room so that he can be safe out of the cage for long periods of time and so that the tv etc... does not startle him. I moved house and he used to be in the lounge with me but the noise both me and him make was not viable and nor was the mess

He isnt starving he just gets more hungry and willing to be sociable when he wants food, that is the only way i get through to him at the moment. I must exaggerate there is food in his cage just not as much as usual today, there is still very small amount in his food bowl. If i was going to starve him to death then i wouldnt leave any food at all would i Liz....

Anyway ive had a bit of a freak evening, i sat with him while my dinner was cooking with a few of his favourite foods next to me and within a few minutes he flew down to floor with me to inspect. Sadly i had to get up to get dinner from oven so he flew back to cage. I ate dinner and returned to him once he had stopped screaming, i waited for 10minutes silence before returning with food but didnt make it so obvious this time that i had food. I sat playing games on my phone and he screamed a few times but i ignored him, then he flew down and climbed on my leg so i gave him a treat. He walked down to my feet and bit my big toe, i couldnt help but flinch and he flew but it was funny.

He eventually came back and again i treated him, lots this time. When i hid the food he began to use me as a climbing frame and each time he settled i gave him more treats. Maybe he fell and banged his head today

Im sure this isnt my bird!!

Safe to say he hasnt made a peep since i left him after that

You don't have to be starving to have hunger pains.

Would you rather your mother told you you could not eat until your room was clean or offer you candy when you finished cleaning? Same thing.
