Hi dan4,

see there is a great improvement. Him sitting on your shoulder, you must recognize, that this bird is trusting you. He could be a little bit lonely during day time, when you are at work. In long term, I would think about a compagnion for him, not now and immediately, and I think he will not scream much longer. However, birds are noisy at times, I have 4 Cags and I know what I am talking about.
It is fear and lonelines. I would not take the food away, watch him and look what he is eating first. Take it out of his foodbowl and use it for training, once done put the rest back in his bowl. Now, go ahead, spent as much time with him as possible, all will be fine, with a little patience!

kind regds, Don + Karin

@ liz - oh you are a lucky one, so many pets, I think they are all fine with you! Problem with me, once we have them, I cannot let them go anymore! LOL

It'd a bit different than a companion but he seemed to show affection to a fluffy penguin toy so ive left it next to cage today and il put it in tomorrow. maybe he thinks its his friend

Donald - it is very hard to give up the rescues. I have to remember that I have so many that keeping more could turn me into a horder which is a terrible thing. A horder cannot keep up with the needs of the critters in it's care.

I keep in mind that I have to find a home for them that is better than the one I can give them. So far I have done just that.

One of them was a little five pound dog who was with me for 2 years. She was so little that she fit into my household without a problem. Then one day and old friend came to visit and the two hit it off right away. I had my friend come back a few more times just to make sure. The little dog was happy to go home with him.

I miss her but I did right by her. She is the center of his life and inseperable.

@ liz - Well that is a good thing, when you know the new owner, you have a good feeling, but here sometimes people tell you, Oh, I have this for the bird and that, and in the end the poor little soul has nothing. That is what I cannot live with. My children, 2 boys 17 and 25, are like us, they rather keep the pet, because they love it. Alone the thought, the bird could not be well, makes them sad.

My wife too, that is why we rather dont look at papers and advertising, even some pet shops are horrible. When we see it, there is no return! LOL :gray:

Ok what I've found is thar stuey doesn't like me in the morning, every weekend I cannot even go near cage in morning. I tried to calm him yesterday but it seemed to annoy him so much he wouldnt come out all day

In the week nights he's fine...

So here's a shocking update, I have realised that stuey wasn't hand reared or anything of the sort......I was a victim of the wild ringneck scam that I've recently come to read about. It's sad really because stuey was a wild bird but I have tamed him to an extent and he talks a little but he won't accept anyone apart from me or my partner being in the room

Perhaps it's a huge achievement taming a wild bird considering everyone else's has appeared to have died shortly after getting them. I believe he is a she and was already of age when I got the bird. At least he is alive I suppose but I'm so sad for him. On the upside today I bought a properly reared Umbrella Cockatoo, I'm hoping they can bond and maybe the socialising will help stuey relax as he's still a jumpy bird

If I'd found this out earlier stuey could have been released but alas it's too late now he's moderately domesticated

That's really awful, both for you and for poor Stuey, but well done for having the patience you've had. It's a measure of the care you've given that s/he has lived despite what must have been terrible trauma. My father lives in Surrey and there are always Ringnecks overhead or in his garden and I read about that scam. Good luck with your U2 and I hope that having another bird around helps Stuey.

Thank you, maybe stuey has been spurred on by the news of another bird arriving.....he's decided my shoulder the the place to eat breakfast this morning without the 10min of luring him from the cage

Hi Dan,

It is really awesome for me as a new bird owner to hear about the progress Stuey has made.. Also, it's quite disappointing to hear that people do such scams with wild ringnecks. That's an evil both for the birds and for prospective owners. I look forward to hearing about the future developments in your story together and hope they are nothing but positive.
