Keeping two tame birds in one cage?

Postby Crimson_Shadows » Thu Dec 15, 2011 1:41 am

I am soon getting a budgie and plan to get another one later but I have heard that it's hard to keep a budgie tame when it is with another. And even harder to teach it to talk. Is this true? :budgie:
RIP Bo. your epicness lives on in all budgies :D

They learn from each other. If the first is well adjusted and tame the other will do the same eventually.

Remember to quarentine the second one before introduction. They should not be in the same room but able to hear each other. They will be noisy because they will call back and forth. It will quiet after they meet.

Do not put them in the same cage. After quarentine you can put them in the same room and give them out of cage time together. You have to wait until one invites the other back to it's cage.

You cannot be sure that they will even like each other but more often then not they want a friend.

Why would you not have them in the same cage?
I think that should be the ultimate goal, even if it takes time. Make slow progress, be sure to quarantine and introduce them to eachother slowly over many weeks, but I dont think its gonna be an issue keeping them together (from what Ive heard its easy to put budgies together).
