I just tought about something else that jojo may not be that easy to tame. First: Nikii, how big is jojo's cage anyway? I know parrots are different than canaries but when I had a canary, in the beginning I had a small cage for her and there was no way I could make her go into her cage on her own. But then I had some extra money and bought a realy big cage and since then I had no trouble, she was going to her cage on her own, when got tired or wanted a nap (ok, sometimes a nap was on my shoulder, so cute ^_^ )
So maybe it's the cage - is too small.
And the other thing I was thinking about is that jour parrot is from a pet shop, right?
So no wonder he's scared of people and panicking. Imagine all those loud kids, and not only kids, putting fingers between cage bars and knocking and stuff in front of scared bunch of birds. And the owner of the shop didn't seem to be taking good care of the animals as well...
I live in a studio with a big window with no glass between room and kitchen so I cannot have Ako flying around when I'm gone. But he has his toys (and I bought him new ones for Xmas ;P) and he's not bored.
I cannot say do this or do that but I would try to give jojo maybe one more week in his cage, spend some more time close to cage and maybe he would be jumping on the wall of the cage that is closer to me to greet me when I come near (that's what Ako does when he's not busy playing with his toys). And when I open the cage I would put my arm like 15-20cm away from cage door and try to call my bird. (Gee, I used a word "cage" so many times, sorry). Just check his reaction. It's just my advice - but you know better your bird, how tame he is and stuff. I got Ako from a friend who has a pair of lovebirds, my bird never got to be in a pet shop so I guess it was easier for him to get used to people.

PS. Thanks for trusting me / us

hi everybody..thx for all the replies!!
jojo cage its not really big,but its enough for him to flap his wings n stretch his body.yeah it hink i need to buy him a bigger cage.he seems really piss off with me,n now he just moving to new room.i will give him time till this weekend n free him again.but i wont catch him anymore this time
just see whats gonna happen if i give him freedom 24 hours maybe he can built his trust with me this way.

oh ya i have a question,is it important to make the bird tame first before let him out of his cage or we should let him out of his cage n slowly make him tame?because this is really different case.i can say jojo is 60% tame.

n how about the cliping wings idea?is it possible to clip it but not too much, only enough to make him cant fly that high.is it bad idea that will make him more worse?

thx for the advice..

We let Ako out when he wasn't afraid of our presence but wasn't tame enough to sit on us. It was couple of days and he was coming closer to us every day and first he sit on my knee :)
And after that he wasn't going anywere far from us.
And about clipping wingd I don't know. It might be traumatic: strange person grabbing a bird's wings (birds don't like people touching their wings when they don't trust them) and cutting feathers. I think it can make jojo go scared again but I never clipped any parrot's wings so I don't know how the bird reacts. Maybe someone with experience will give you good anwer.

Clipping wings causes insecurity. They know they can't fly so everything scares them.
Myrtle came with clipped wings. When they grew out and she could fly is when she started leaving the top of her cage.

Your friends are really really wrong. A couple of times a day when you can devote your full attention to him, let him out to interact with you. This should be a time when you can watch everything he does. Play with a new toy even if it is a paper bag with a old toy in it. Going into the bag will be something new. Don't let the renovations interfere with his socialization.

Hello again :)

Well, Ako doesn't allow me to touch him yet as well. And he doesn't step up. But I thinh he doesn't want to step up, because when I hold something that will interest him - he has no problem with stepping on my fingers

We live in a studio, and the kitchen isn't completly separated from our room. Besides we have some plants that might be poisonous for Ako. He doesn't go near flowers but you never know...
We let him out once a day, he plays with us and he will take a bath in his bowl when I call him.
But I can't let him be outside the cage without supervision - too dangerous!!!

If you have a room for him that is safe for a bird - no mirrirs, no plants that he cannot eat, no sharp objects and placet that he can get stuck (like back of the wardrobe) I think you could try and see how it works. Just remember (but it's only my opinion), if he gets used to being outside the cage 24hours, he can get reeeaaaly noisy and mean if you close the cage door with him inside.
We had such situation with Ako. Let him out too soon I guess. Letting him out everyday but he was still quite wild I'd say, flying to plants, destroing toys and running away from us. So we decided to cool him down and we kept him in cage for like over a week without opening. He was soooo angry and mad, It was the loudest time ever!!! From morning to night - I was going crazy - trust me on that.
But after like 3-4 days he was getting calmer and nicer
We took a shot, let him out and we still do almost every day :)
Sorry for such a long reply. I hope you will find what you wanted to know.
But remember - I'm an amateur with birds, all my answers are based on my logic and experience with my previous rodents - pets.

Stay in touch
