Really Annoying ....need help please

Postby KittGCC » Wed Dec 21, 2011 4:12 pm

I recently adopted a 4 y.o GCC , she is fairly tame despite not being handled for four years ! She is good with me but can occasionally/ randomly nip ( out of excitement it seems , she looks like she is having fun doing it ) weirdly though she is in LOVE with my 11 year old brother , he can do absolutely anything to her , she follows him around etc . No problem but I'm the one who gives her treats and spend 2+ hours with her (target training) so why does she prefer him more , even tho my little brother never gives her any treats or anything !!! ....now the problem actually lies where when I try to train her & my brother or any other family member is present she refuses to do tricks , and starts biting me :( ....why does this. Happen and what can I do to overcome this ?

Thanks kitt

The may be because she wants to go to your brother (or another family member) but you are keeping her away from them so she is nipping you to give you the message that she wants to go to them.

To solve this, take her into a room which is only yours and barely anyone goes there (for example your bedroom) and do training with her there without anyone else. Feed her treats from your hand and, overall, build a bigger bond with her, so she actually really enjoys being with you and she finds it rewarding rather than boring. Do this everyday for about an hour. After you have continued doing this for a week or so, then she will start to bond with you. Then, she will enjoy both your company and your families company, and luckily for you, she will prefer your company slightly more. Even though you are trying to bond her to you more, make sure she continues socializing with the family as well. If you continue training her in one room every day and she gets used to it, she will start doing tricks more naturally, and then, she will do it no matter what room she's in and no matter who's around.

Hope this helps!
