Suspend training for 12 weeks?

Postby macbrush » Wed Jan 11, 2012 8:58 pm

As you guys probably know, I had a traffic accident (again) and broke my left foot. Now I am home, but still need about 12 weeks recovery time. I can keep on doing tricks that my grey Spencer knows a few mins a time, but any further training require both hands, or good balance on my part is out of the question.

Any suggestions that would keep Spencer stimulated, and not getting too used to old tricks and refuse to learn new tricks in future? Actually, should I just don't bother, keep playing with Spencer the best I can and continue when I recovered?

Thanks for any suggestions

Cheers
Kenneth

You could chuck a load of foraging toys in his cage, that would keep him pretty stimulated

Thanks, I only got Spencer for just over a month, and have been training him for about 2 weeks (I spent the last fortnight in hospital), I adopted him from his previous owner, he's about 2.5 years old, not sure what he knows before. But I trained him targeting, touching beak, touching belly, touching feet, and was on about 25% into stepping up.

I tried foraging toys, he immediately TOTALLY destroy them without eating anything inside. So I now kind of only give foraging toy to Spencer once a week.
