Morning activity

Postby dan4 » Mon Feb 13, 2012 2:21 pm

I wonder if this is a problem for just me and Stuey or other people experience this....

Over the weekends i notice Stuey wakes up around 7am-ish, the normal time i get up for work in the weekdays. This is fair enough as he probably sees this as routine. I can often hear him up to no good if i dont get up early. But when i do get up and attempt to greet him he seems very agitated and uncomfortable and i cannot even refil his food bowl or be in the room as he flaps around uncontrollably. In the evening i can get him on my hand/arm he will fly down to me for food and i can sort of target him around depending how hungry he is. Its justt the morning that is a real big problem, ive even tried opening the cage and leaving the room, this makes no odds and ends up with him flying around the room!

What time does Stuey go to bed? I'm just wondering if he is getting enough sleep? Most parrots need 10-12 hours so if he isn't a cage cover or a 'night' cage in a seperate room where he isn't disturbed where he can get enough sleep/quiet time.

I don't cover mine or give them a bedtime. Rambo goes to his little nite nite cage when he gets tired. Myrtle sleeps in a paper bag attached to her tree. When they see me go to the coffee pot that means I am fair game for play, as if they haven't seen me for a week. I spend my first 2 hours stepping over the dogs and Rambo with Myrtle on my shoulder or hanging on my back.

I dont cover stuey he hates it. I turn the lights off in his room at 11pm. I know when he is sleepy cause he gets on his swing and I lower him into cage, he sleeps on swing

He's like a different bird in the morning, in the evening he is brilliant I'm targeting him all over me as I type this! :cockatoo:

hello..

i think is normal dan4,jojo used to be like a grumpy grandfather when is morning(8am-3pm) because he prefer me to let him take nap or sleep with him inside his room.he dsnt really enjoy hard activity like trick training around this time. when night i can touch his leg or his beak.but if i try in morning it means i give my finger for his breakfast

do u come/wake him up slowly?jojo will really please me if i said ''helooo my cute red nose baby'' behind his door to give him sign that i will come to his room in the morning.i used to make a noise to let him know im awake n will come to greet him so he dsnt get shock somebody come from behind door n suprised him.

i dont cover him also,he hates it but if u could buy half cover cage maybe is not a bad idea.
i hope this work well for stuey also

I greet him every morning the same way and he is ok its just weekends when i get up a little later he's crazy. I had 4 hours of solid screaming sunday after I went in his room and he flapped around his cage. That is another thing, I cannot break the screaming still after 3months!

Ok i have an unexpected day off today and i can hear stuey moving around in his cage like crazy so i crept up to door for a peek....he's got his wings a little out and rocking from side to side, hes also trying to poke his head through bars which would explain his bald spot on his head. I know if i go in there he will get very upset at me even being there :( not sure what i can do here

hi,
sorry to hear what happen to u n stuey :(
im nt sure i can help u with the problem but do u check around his body?maybe there is something bothering him/something really pain.in early morning usually they have their 100% energy so maybe he is trying to tell u something is going wrong. and r u sure is not hormones or molting season for him that makes him always bad mood? does he get enough excersice?probably he just trying to burn off some energy.my advice is bring him to see vet only for general check up to make sure everything is 'fine' n if the vet said there is no problem so u can be relax n just ignore it.

yes i know is hard to ignore the scream, mine have high pitch annoying scream also n it really make me headache.but maybe its their nature.

good luck n dont forget to post soon if there is any progress

oh ya dann4,if u said he is only crazy when u wake up more late i think u can try my idea.
in morning if i wake up late jojo scream for like 5 min nonstop just trying to tell me wake up!!!what i do is i go to his room at the SAME time everyday just to greet n change food n water.after that i jump again to the bed n he dsnt realize it ;) they quite smart n very on time,i need to be very careful every morning because his scream always make my husband n my neighbor get heart attack.so maybe u have the problem like mine.

so i guess u need to wake up at the same time even u get day off, they like routine n get upset if suddenly something change.mmm sometimes i really want to sleep more longer also but because of him i cant.

hope this help!! ;)

i will try all things but after a whole day of screaming and flying around room uncontrollably i clipped his wings and he cannot fly anymore, he instantly seems much more relaxed and hasnt made a peep since. He attempted to take flight and ended up on the floor, i picked him up after a few bites and popped him back on the cage with some apple. Now il leave him until tomorrow

Also i think i let him out too much so im keeping him in for a week and then il only open cage for training until he is very tame

Its been a while but Stuey still screams in the morning but is far less agitated now. Ive waited until he is quiet and treated him as soon as i enter the room and hes ok with that now. I still cant stop the screaming though
