Shirt Chewing Issue

Postby Wayne361 » Tue Mar 13, 2012 11:32 am

Hello,

My Senegal (Oscar) is a wonderful bird and well socialized but has taken to chewing on my shirt when he is on my shoulder. The outcome is obvious (holes in shirt) and would like to correct this behaviour. I take him off my shoulder every time he chews, thinking he might associate this with his behavior, but so far he doesnt "get it". He doesnt chew to the skin but does a number on any shirt I wear. I have resorted to also wearing old shirts when handling him but would prefer corrective measures. I have read many articles on parrot training etc (thanks to this great site) but so far dont know how to tackle this one yet. Any and all suggestions will be appreciative. Thanks in advance,

Wayne

Because if the bird isn't on the shoulder, then it can't rip holes into the shirt. Problem solved.

Haha yes true but what do those people who want to look like pirates do if their pirate outfit keeps getting chewed up?

You will have a hard time stopping a bird from chewing, but I reckon you can have a bird on your shoulder. However, you will have to deal with the fact that they are curious and likes to chew on stuff.

My advice is, if you want to keep your bird on your shoulder, and are worried about them making holes in your shirt - wear a shirt you arent careful with. Easy as that =).

Though tbh, I have bigger birds than you, and I have yet to have my clothing destoyed ^^.

Why do you think pirates have such tattered clothes?

The only thing my birds don't chew on is clothes.

Rambo put a hole in the wall behind the toilet where the pipe goes through.

Myrtle steals things from my desk and chews them up.
