I have owned my budgie coco for nearly 3 years, the first year i played with him everyday and whenever i was home i was always with him, he always stepped up without a command and used to sit on my shoulder. For about a year and a half after this I had no time to spend with him due to schoolwork and rugby, though the time I could spend with him I did but because of this year and half gap he hasn't grown to hate me but doesn't know me as well as he did.
He still knows 'up' and goes up whenever i say it, he is always let out of his cage out of his own free will.
So anyway over the past week I have started spending a lot more time with him and decided I would start from the beginning with him, trusting my hand, going over the 'up' command. He got all this quickly and last night and this morning he fell asleep on my hand.
The problem is when I walk past his cage he doesn't go nuts but he does walk around his cage going towards his swing as if he doesn't want to be by him but when i put my hand in he happily jumps on? I want him to feel comfortable around me so later on i can teach him tricks etc so I want to know how i can combat this?
Also where should I go from here taming wise?
Thanks in advance.
