some of you have probably seen a post I made, about not being able to get sky out of her cage. and it got to the point where she would bite my finger if I tried to get her to step up. now I have seen a few other people having the same problems with their budgies. and someone mentioned that budgies can get addicted to their cages. now from this, I started why she would want to stay in her cage all the time. well there is food and water, toys, perches. so my aim has become to show sky that being out of her cage is just as much fun, if not better, than being in her cage. I began targeting her around the cage, and when targeting her onto my finger didn't work, I went back to basics. I pressed her finger to her belly and told her the command up, and for a moment she looked like she was going to bite me, but she hopped up but imediately hopped off. but I click and gave her some millet.. and after repeating this several times of having her step onto my finger. I can now hold my finger out near her, tell her up and she will step on. and slowly moving her out of the cage, mayvbe just sitting in the doorway of it. Now I have been able to take sky right out of the cage at her own free will and she is sitting next to me as I type this. I plan to get her a play stand and buy a perch stand so that she has something interesting to do when we're not training. I'm not sure if this is useful to anyone, but it worked for me and sky.
