My african grey is potty trained?

Postby Salmando9 » Sun Apr 22, 2012 2:03 pm

Hey guys,
Chloe is only 4 months, and every time I put her on the ground now she potties. so I decided to potty train her like this today because I noticed this morning that she was calling me, once I took her out of the cage she went to the ground and did a big one, so I figured she held it until she went to the ground. So I decided to train her, now every time I put her on the ground, I put a newspaper on the ground and ask her to potty, and she does, and then i move her. Is this a good approach? do you think it's a good idea or I need to change it?
Thanks guys! :gray:

If it works for you why not. If you have young children or four legged pets that might attack the bird while on the floor, then this might not be an ideal situation.

I dont have children or any 4 legged pets. I do have a baby senegal though, and they want to fight all the time. But I dont let the senegal on the ground.

My sun is like this too, in the morning when I take his cover off, I take him off his perch and put him on a different one and tell him "poop" and he poops :) Or when he's out playing he'll flap his wings and lean toward the cage, I take him and place him on his "pooping perch", tell him poop and he poops!

Occasionally though he can't hold it or doesn't give me the sign and ends up doing his business wherever he is, but for the most part he lets me know when he has to go :sun:
