Very happy bird, but he's scared of me

Hi everyone, I have had my lovebird sucre for a week. He is a very happy bird and seems to have got used to his environment rather quickly. He will call for me when I leave the room and chatter away. The only problem is that when I go near his cage he seems scared off me! Not scared in a aggressive way just walking away from me. Has anyone got any tips? I know I've only had him for a short period of time and it's takes a long time for a bird to trust someone but he seems very content when I'm sitting away from him. I really appreciate any advise

Is he flighted? Let him fly. When he gets tired he will let you help him get back to his "stuff".

I haven't had his wings clipped but I am getting it done next weekend, do you think this will help?

Don't do it. He will only be more fearfull.

Okay, won't me not clipping his wings effect the bonding process? I assume your birds are flighted? Have they bonded with you or are they wild ?

i feel flight strengthens the bond. mine came clipped and i find they want to be with me more when flighted,they no longer bite,easier to get back in the cage at night for bed,and are just happier birds.

i agree with pennyandrocky,
clip bird is more difficult i guess,my grey clipped the first time i adopt him and he scared of death to me cuz he knows he cant fly.second thing,if they fall down they will get more serious injured because of poor landing.third thing,u have to always predict where he wants to go,when he want to come back/leave to cage etc.im not more than taxi driver for my grey because he dsnt have wings.i think its just a trouble when they are not independent.

Do not clip your birds wings, if anything it makes the bonding worse! It also make birds nippier, as they cant fly away from trouble, and may result to biting.
