Clipped birds are more fearful and harder to actually bond with.
Flighted birds are less fearful because they know they can fly away if you do something they don't like.
Don't clip it's wings. That is a physical and emotional travesty.

If the bird is tasting you it is trying to check you out. Wiggle your finger or tickle her foot with your thumb while she has you. Say tickle tickle. Myrtle now comes to me and asks for a tickle tickle.

I thought clipping the birds wings would keep him safe and I wouldn't lose her. But after reading everything I had, that don't seem to be the case. I won't clip Eva's wings now. I didn't realize that it could also cause stress on the bird. She's stressed out enough with leaving her home to come here with being the only bird.

Thank you for explaining to me and showing me my options for both clipped n unclipped. :) :gcc:

The key word is slow.

Don't show fear and don't react. I know it can be hard but you have to tough up. Sometimes Myrtle clamps on me and leaves a ridge. I tell her "owe" and she stops. Since she is flighted I use an open hand swat and she flies away. Or I just tell her to fly.

You are going to have so much fun.

Rambo is like a 6 year old boy with a speach impediment. Myrtle is like his 2 year old sister who baby talks a lot and aggrivates her older brother. It gets noisy here sometimes but I wouldn't have it any other way. She will pester him until he asks "you got a problem". She will back talk in baby blubbers.

Glad you've reached a decision. Its hard sometimes to decide whats best as theres so much conflicting info out there. Training and care with windows, doors and other unsafe objects will be all thats needed to keep her safe. Including the canaries, finches etc I've never had an accident or an escape yet and i've had over 23 flighted birds in total. I still constantly look for ways to improve things though, the next thing on the list is to make or buy some covers for the windows so they cannot escape if we ever accidently forget to shut them, never forgotton to double check there all shut yet but we are all only human. As long as you remember we all make mistakes and are super careful you will be fine.

I have all my windows covered with blinds. So I'm not afraid she's going to fly to one of them. My husband even purchased some wood to make her a small perch to sit on. We've been really working with her on training. She wont step up just yet. But she will come to me and taste my hand with only one foot on it. LOL But that's okay. She's only a baby yet. She will get it.

Again I want to thank you all for showing me about the clipping. I truly had no idea that it could put that much stress on a bird. Some of the photo's I had seen about birds that were stressed from the clipping really got to me. :(
