By jove hes got it...

Well I am now the proud partner of rodney who is stick trained...bless, him I have deprived him of apple and he now follows the stick wherever it goes. I did attempt this with peanuts but he want overtly keen, tried with apple and after a bit of cajoling initially here follows it. I can get him in and out his cage, onto my chair...and its only taken him one day..I'm one excited parrot owner...I feel so proud of him...time for strokes and scratches now as a big treat.

thamks i will try that too, although he has sunflower seeds in his food (i've yet to find a pet shop by me who stocks pellets), but will defo keep fruit as his treat.
I just didn't expect to feel this proud and close to him already...the trust is getting better and better too, I am not as scared of his beak or him of my hands..in fact he is at this very moment trying to build up the courage to sit on my shoulder so i will scratch him some more...i think this is the beginning of a very long and loving relationship :amazon:

Very glad to hear you're getting on so well already!

Are you in the UK? If so try northernparrots.com - they have most pellet brands and you can search by parrot breed. I'd personally recommend Harrisons adult lifetime.
I'd say it would be a good idea to switch to a pelleted diet over a seed diet but obviously slowly over weeks or maybe months depending on how Rodney reacts to the new diet.

Hopefully he'l be sitting on your shoulder for tickles very soon! I tried the first few times i put Snuffkin on my shoulder in front of a mirror so I could still see what he was up to (i familiarized him with the mirror first of course). You won't be able to read his body language when you can't see him properly and when turning your eye toward him is the only way of knowing if he's ok, you could end up with an eye or face injury. But the key to success is small steps!
Did Rodney sit on his previous owner's shoulder? I know it's a very owner specific thing and some people don't let their feathered ones up there.
Good luck!

Yes I'm in the uk and thanks for the pellet advice, will look later...i smiled at this post as I was reading it and rodney decided that he would be very comfortable perched on my lap, hes getting very trusting of me. His last owner didn't put him on her shoulder, so I will take it at rodney pace. He seems to trust me more and more bless him. :amazon:

Another vote for northern parrots, they are really good. They do have a delivery charge though unless you spend over a certain amount so its good to either buy bigger bags which is cheaper in itself and freeze them or try to get into a system where you buy other bits and bobs from them too instead of buying the odd bit here and there.
Midland parrots website is also pretty good, the owners are really friendly but they do have a slower service as they are a family business.
