A person (especially a child) or any animal that is hungry has a short attention span.

I have been hungry before and it isn't a nice feeling.

Think of when your at work and something happens that you don't get lunch on time. You can't consentrate. You get cranky and irritable. Your pile of work looks huge and everyone is getting on your nerves.

My house is free choice. My dogs live for their handouts but have a healthy dry food that they could eat if their bellys rumble before I get to them. 5 dogs share 2 cans of dog food for breakfast. The boys get a low fat turkey hot dog for lunch (the girls get a forth of one). Then they get a chewy at bed time.

My cats depend on the dry food but want a can in the morning.

My birds have roudybush free choice.

I don't like being hungry and I sure won't let anyone around me be hungry.

Hi Liz, I just want to clear up that I dont advocate starving a bird (or any animal for that manner) :) I just believe on schedule feeding, portion control and proper excersize. It is unnatural for a bird to have unlimited access to food resources (as this never happens in the wild). If bird is fed on schedule it will see being put back in his cage as a rewarding experience. We all do things differently and I respect your, and others opinions...just wanted to clear that up.
