My tiels get red nostrils when they are in breeding mode. Other than their butts in the air that is the only way I know they are.

Do yours do that cute little half wolf whistle thing to at the same time as sticking their bums up in the air? Harlie did it loads a few weeks back, like a little mating call.

It will take work but the way to untrain screaming is initially to reward even the breifest silences and then increase the amount of silent time that it requires to receive a treat. Another thing to consider is to reward pleasant noises that you like. Parrots do make noise and it makes them happy. They want to communicate with you so by rewarding the noises you like you reinforce what you want to hear. Be sure to respond and talk to your cockatiel when he makes sweet noises. If you ignore the parrot until he's out of control then the parrot learns that screaming = interaction.

Good luck!

Also I put pictures on here by uploading it onto photobucket: http://photobucket.com/ and then following instructions to insert into the comment.

My little tiels have mates. Since they all seem to be nyphomaniacs and at it all the time I don't here any noises except from the females while in progress. They do a fast, high pitch tweeter.

they get more sex in a week than I had in the last 20 years.

Haha  .... Well my little Bebe passsed away... :? It was really devastating but I've somewhat got over it. Thank you all for your help, the experience was much easier going through it with you guys. Won't be getting a new friend for awhile mainly to respect Bebe in the fact he can't be replaced. :? His bottom perch somehow fell on him and paralyzed him.... my sister comforted him in that time. R.I.P Bebe.
